Community Leaders Burn ACORN Membership Cards to light the way for Truth and Transparency

St. Louis, Missouri  June 25, 2009 (10:00 to 11:00)

We the members of the national board of the ACORN 8 formally demand an immediate suspension of all federal, state and local funding of ACORN until after an independent audit and Congressional hearings on ACORN and its related entities. And that all members BOYCOTT ACORN and immediately cease paying their dues until after a forensic examination of ACORN and its related entities. The ACORN 8 is an organization of ACORN leaders; current and former board members who are seeking to reform the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now.

What Boycott ACORN and Community Protest – Members from the Missouri ACORN 8 will light candles of Truth and Transparency, and symbolically burn their ACORN membership cards.

Where:  In front ACORN Office at 4303 Manchester Street, St. Louis, MO.

Why:   ACORN is not living up to its original mission; and that is to give meaningful voice and empower low and moderate income members of society. ACORN has been corrupted from its original purpose by senior management and an organizational structure that exploits the low and moderate income membership ACORN was founded to serve. Voter fraud, voter registration fraud, unpaid taxes, unfair labor practices, etc, while tantalizing are not the problem, but merely symptoms of ACORN’s corrupt leadership. The real problem with ACORN is its governance – and the lack of transparency and accountability of that leadership.

When:  Thursday June 25, 2009 from 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M.

Claiming Your Victory Meeting

Sunday, June 28th, 2009

Washington, DC - Claiming Your Victory: Saturday, June 20th, 2009 (10:30am)

Joint meeting of the Urban Housing Alliance and the “ACORN 8” will address action to claim YOUR victory. We will meet at the Woodridge Branch Library, 18th & Rhode Island Avenue, NE, Saturday, June 20th (10:30am to 12:00). We will cover three main points at this exciting meeting to help empower you to get results.

Alliance members and neighbors are now challenging high property taxes and DC Mayor Fenty’s efforts to displace renters. We will help you to prepare the “Level 2” appeal form. And, report our recent successes with the DC Council.

We will learn about the heroic, inspiring struggle of the “ACORN 8” to get truth, transparency and accountability. And, we’ll find out how we can work together to empower all of our low and moderate income neighbors.

We will get a roadmap to empower our messages with the broadcast voice of WPFW. Nominations for the station’s board elections are now open. Learn how we can strengthen our community’s voice, build outlets for local talents, and create internship and career opportunities.

Don’t miss this unique chance to turn your vision of uplifting our community into reality. Take solid steps to cut your taxes and preserve affordable, decent housing. Focused, small group sessions will target individual issues.

Why Congress Should Deny ACORN Funding

Tuesday, May 19th, 2009

ACORN is not transparent. Neither we, nor the government, really know where the money goes once it is allocated. Until a forensic audit is done of ACORN and its affiliated organizations, nothing more should be given.

ACORN says that they receive/or will receive no money in the stimulus bill. But other agencies under the ACORN umbrella are standing in line with their hands out.

An investiagion into ACORN and the relationships with these “ACORN” agencies would show that millions of dollars have gone to ACORN.
